Context : Planning Status
The Calderwood project was included in West Lothian’s Finalised Local Plan which went on deposit in May 2005. Calderwood attracted 24 objections during the 8 week deposit period. None from any statutory bodies.
A Local Plan Enquiry began in August 2006 to assess the objections to West Lothian’s Local Plan. This is due to conclude in February 2007 with the reporters recommendations expected in the summer of 2007.
Local Plan requirements for Calderwood:
- 2,800 new homes, including an affordable provision, located mostly in the new Calderwood community area. With some very low density and affordable housing in the Raw Holdings area.
- Calderwood should be integrated with East Calder by a network of new roads and pedestrian & cycle links through the Raw Holdings area.
- New high school, shared by the local communities, located within Raw Holdings area, within walking distance of East Calder and Calderwood.
- Provision for a variety of enhanced community facilities and amenities at East Calder and the Raw Holdings area.
- Improved public transport network, including land for a new Park and Ride at Kirknewton Station.
- New primary schools and local facilities to support a sustainable new community at Calderwood.
- Land safe guarded for future employment.
