Research : Consultation
The Process
The Calderwood proposal has participated in the entire new Structure and Local Plan process. West Lothian Council have carried out a variety of public consultations:
- The draft Structure Plan, 2020 Vision, outlining future growth areas.
- Preferred developments, 4 month consultation. This included 2 evening public workshops in East Calder attended by over 200 people, staffed libraries and other information outlets.
- Finalised Local Plan, 8 week deposit period.
Stirling developments want to ensure Calderwood is an outstanding development for the local community, in order to achieve this we need local community involvement.
On the 14th June and 26th July 2006, Stirling Developments Ltd conducted consultations with representatives from the East Calder local community including community council, education, health care, church, park user groups and local residents, to discuss and consider how best to implement the needs of the local community and the Local Plan within the Calderwood development.
Some of the principles agreed at the consultation were:
- Calderwood should be in harmony with its setting and compatible with existing community.
- New high school should be inspiring, setting the tone for a quality development in the Raw Holdings area.
- The new community at Calderwood should be sustainable, with sufficient shops and community facilities.
- Mass housing should not be 'bolted onto' East Calder.
- Housing in the Raw Holdings area needs to be sensitively integrated. Capacity for around 100 homes, the remainder should be accommodated in the new community at Calderwood.
- Transport policy to ensure existing communities are not impacted and improvements are made to limit potential congestion on A71.
