The Calderwood Project
Hello, I’m Peter Stirling, Managing Director of Stirling Developments.
This Calderwood Project has captivated me ever since I saw the site, some 5 years ago. Since then I’ve acquired the development rights for most of the land and successfully taken it through the planning process and into West Lothian’s new Local Plan.
My ambition is to create an inspiring, sustainable community, with identity, character and a friendly community spirit. I would like residents to look forward to getting home to the serenity of Calderwood, where they can exchange the car for a bike, go for an uplifting walk along scenic routes or chill out in a café in the square with friends or family. A place that respects and co- exists in harmony with nature and the environment. Calderwood should integrate positively with East Calder, delivering real community benefits, with the new high school setting the benchmark for an enlightened development in that area.
The development industry does not have a good track record of delivering high aspirations and has often under achieved for the local community. Stirling Development’s high aspirations for Calderwood are genuine and we intend to steward the project until completion, to ensure they are delivered.
To demonstrate my commitment for this project, I have personally written this document, taken the photographs and presided over the concept plans contained within it, so I hope you like it! I do have an excellent team to consult with but I wanted this to be a very personal document, to allow the reader to better understand the developer responsible for Calderwood.
This document sets out our principles, ambitions and visions for Calderwood. Our draft master plan has evolved through consultations with the local community. This will continue until we reach a finalised version that best delivers the community needs and local plan requirements.
We want Calderwood to be a landmark development, setting new standards for the way the industry delivers large scale housing developments, where human values are top of the agenda. We want to create a happy place.
I hope you find this introductory Calderwood document interesting and informative.
Peter Stirling
